GoCD bundles the OpenJDK JRE in certain cases: Docker images, Windows installers and Mac OSX installers. The GoCD team builds and tests all releases against an appropriate distribution of OpenJDK. The OpenJDK project will follow Oracle’s 6 month release cadence for Java, and will publish patches and security updates. These editions will receive 8 years of paid commercial support from Oracle.įor more information about this, take a look at:Īs an alternative to purchasing commercial support from Oracle, organisations may want to consider OpenJDK, the free, open-source implementation of Java SE. For organizations concerned with this release cadence, Oracle will designate some releases as long-term-support (LTS) releases. Each release of Java SE will be end-of-life once a newer version is released.
New releases of Java SE will be made available every 6 months. Oracle also announced a new 6 month release cadence of Java SE. Organizations that want to continue to use a supported and up-to-date Oracle JRE will be required to purchase a license from Oracle.
